Cavaliers are sweet, affectionate, social, and gentle toy spaniels that are sporting in nature and full of curiosity. Cavaliers have been bred to be companion dogs for centuries and that is exactly what they are. Cavaliers enjoy being with their family, they will constantly follow you all over the house. They love taking walks, playing fetch in the back yard, riding in the car, greeting strangers at the door or just sitting next to you while you watch TV or read. Cavaliers adapt quite easily to your lifestyle, whatever it is, but they need to be a part of your life to be happy. This breed does not do well when left alone all day. Cavaliers do not require harsh discipline, as they are a very sensitive breed and get their feelings hurt easily. It is best to use positive reinforcement, which they respond well to. They adapt well to the lifestyle of their owners, whether you live in the city or country, apartment or home. They are great with children, senior citizens, and make great therapy dogs. Cavaliers do well with other pets too, and they love other Cavaliers! They think that they are loved by all and will approach anyone without a second thought. These qualities are what make the Cavalier such a wonderful companion and family pet.
Cavaliers are fearless by nature and rarely consider the possibility of danger. They are often described as a large dog in a small compact body. They love to chase butterflies, rabbits, squirrels, and birds. Because of their fun loving and carefree nature our Cavaliers have a fenced yard in which to play as a secure and safe area is essential. They are always leashed when outside the yard and are always crated when traveling in the car.
